Oh man do I love a good 4th of July party, and my father-in-law throws the BEST ones! We grill out around the pool, have lots of yummy drinks, and shoot and watch fireworks on the beach in my favorite town, Ocean Springs. I can’t wait!!
I’ve been planning this outfit since Memorial Day. Don’t judge me. Lets dissect it, shall we?
Mirrored Ray-Ban Aviators
Is there even a question about these being a 4th of July essential? They’re so Top Gun, which is so American.
American Flag Swim Top
This top is so flattering. It has that sports bra looking cut, so I feel like it would look good one anyone. Not to mention, it’s REALLY comfortable, and I don’t have to worry about any wardrobe malfunctions. Get my drift?
High Waisted Bottoms
These bottoms are super comfortable too, and they give you a super cute pin-up look. Again, what’s more American than pin-ups?
Round Beach Towel
Have you guys seen these everywhere?? I NEED ONE! My house is seriously low on beach towels. I’ve been stealing them from my parent’s house. I’ve gotten away with a grand total of 2. Time to break down and get this bad boy.
I bought this romper because it was super cute and comfy. I didn’t originally intend for it to be a cover up until I got home and realized you can see through the whole thing. However, it is THE BEST cover up I have ever owned.
I go nowhere without my Birkenstocks. They’re the first item on the “Becoming a Hippy” checklist.
Sea Salt Spray
Perfect for when you want a hair style but you don’t actually want to style it.
I’m trying out The Honest Company’s sunscreen. So far, so good. Remember you should wear it EVERY DAY.
There ya have it! My 4th of July outfit is laid out and read to go!
What are your plans? Cute outfit? Let me know!
P.S. You can shop the look below, now!
Hola! Happy Monday, y’all!
My momma has always raised me to take care of my skin. It’s SO IMPORTANT.
I can’t even sleep unless my face is clean. I could have had the longest night ever, but I will still wash my face before I get in bed. I feel like I’m suffocating if I don’t. I’m seriously hoping it pays off as the years pass.
I’ve always tried to use all natural and cruelty-free products, but it has become even more important to me since becoming plant-based (vegan). And since I suffered from some pretty intense acne in my last two years of high school, skincare has always been of top importance. It was so bad, my dermatologist put me on Accutane.
If you aren’t familiar with the drug Accutane, it is an INTENSE oral treatment for cystic acne. It can cause terrible side effects and horrific birth defects. You have to take all of these safety classes and have blood work and pregnancy tests done monthly to even be prescribed the medicine. It did clear my skin, but I also experienced a lot of the miserable side effects (like fainting at a pep rally my senior year in front of the entire school) and ended up getting off of it early. I’m still on the fence about whether or not I would recommend it to others with terrible cystic acne. It’s no joke, and I still get blemishes around that time of the month.
My tragic little story to say, while cystic acne can’t be prevented, a healthy, natural skincare regimen is of the utmost importance. Here are a few of my favorite products. I use most of these on the daily.
Alba Good & Clean Daily Detox Foaming Cleanser
I used to ONLY use Cetephil. Dermatologists had always recommended it to me because it was so gentle and moisturizing. I also suffer/suffered from horrible eczema. (Cutting out dairy ended that, though.) I started looking at the label a few months ago and realized it was all chemicals. NO THANKS. I found this Alba cleanser and have absolutely LOVED it. It leaves your face feeling so clean, but not dried out.
Avalon Organics Vitamin C Renewal Balancing Toner
I love toner. It makes your face feel THAT MUCH cleaner. However, I don’t like using harsh alcohols on my face, which is what regular toners are made of. Not this one, though! This one leaves your face feeling just as clean, but it’s made of natural ingredients that won’t harm your skin.
Yes to Cucumbers Soothing Hypoallergenic Facial Towelettes
If you haven’t started using facial wipes, you are SERIOUSLY missing out. These things are so amazing when you’re feeling lazy or super tired. I even stick them my gym bag to take off my makeup before a work-out or wipe off all the dried nasty sweat after I’m finished. I have a couple of brands I buy regularly, but the Yes To brand is great. I’ve liked every product I’ve ever used from this brand.
Philosophy Loveswept Body Lotion
This stuff smells SO GOOD. My aunt bought me my first bottle as a gift a few years ago, and I’ve been addicted ever since. The big bottle is kind of expensive, but it has lasted me forever. I even use the perfume too!
Pixi By Petra Glow Mist
I spray this stuff on at least twice a day. Especially if I’m not wearing make up, which is like every day during the summer. It gives your face a fresh and glowy feel without having to put any make up on. It’s moisturizing too, which is so important no matter what skin type you have. I spray this on after I wipe down my face post work out. Also, it helps that it smells really good.
SheaMoisture 100% Pure Monoi Oil
I believe in lots of oil on the outside of my body, just not the inside. Monoi Oil works to illuminate your skin. I use it instead of moisturizing lotion. I put it on right before I start applying my make up because it gives me that dewey look that I love. You can also use this stuff on your hair, but I haven’t tried that yet.
Ocean Potion Suncare Protect & Nourish Sunscreen, SPF 30
I saved the most important for last! SUNSCREEN! Wear it every day. No matter what. It doesn’t matter if it’s cloudy outside or winter or the dang apocalypse. WEAR IT and DO NOT TAN YOUR FACE. I’ve seen way to many older women whose face either looks like a leather bag or they’ve spent thousands on reversing sun damage. It’s just not worth it. My father has had melanoma twice, and I’ve had 3 scares. The first one when I was 5 years old. I’m not playing with the sun. I’ll save the rest of this argument for another post, but wear your sunscreen and keep your butt out of the tanning bed. RANT OVER.
There ya have it, ladies and gents. My best and favorite cruelty-free skincare products.
What’s your skincare routine like? Any tips I need to try? You know I’d love to know!

If you wear makeup and you haven’t heard of NYX, then you might want to crawl out from under your rock and pay attention!
I love NYX. They create quality cosmetics that are not tested on animals and are great quality for the price. However, as you might have guessed, the Soft Matte Lip Creams are my absolute FAVORITE.
I’m just not a fan of glossy lips. Sorry. Not sorry. It’s just too much for me. I used to not even be a fan of lipstick at all until I came across these little gems. They stay on forever and look darn good while doing it. I’m obsessed. Let me show you my favorite colors.
The NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream goes on so easily, too. Although, I do suggest exfoliating your lips first. I have a designated tooth brush just for lip exfoliation. I even put on some chapstick first to keep it from drying out. You know you’ve had that dry lip, soaked in lipstick look before, and it’s not cute.
Come to think of it, I use a bunch of NYX products….
Just thought I’d share my latest obsession with y’all. What are your thoughts on matte lipsticks? Let me know!
P.S. This is not a sponsored post. I’m just in love.
So I did a little chopping the week before Thanksgiving. I got a wild hair (pun intended) and decided to donate it in the spirit of Christmas giving. It has been almost a month, and I’m still getting used to it. My hair was REALLY long for 8 years, so it’s an adjustment.
8 years ago, I donated my hair for the first time. I sent it to Locks of Love, because it was the only organization I had ever heard about. I was 17 years old, and excited to make a child feel better. This time, though, I did some research.
I have heard over the years that Locks of Love makes families pay for their wigs, and my hair didn’t meet all the requirements for some of the other well known organizations (like length and/or color treatment). I was on the hunt for an organization that fit just right.
Then, one of my friends at work shared with me that an organization called Children with Hair Loss provided her daughter’s wig free of charge when she had cancer a few years ago. As I dug further and further, it seemed clear that this was where I needed to send my hair–so I did! I even checked them out on Give.org, which I highly suggest you doing before you donate to any non-profit organization.
Children with Hair Loss has never charged a child or family for a wig, and their goal is to “assist as many children as possible in changing their lives by improving their outlook and empowering them with a degree of self confidence that will allow them to face the world with renewed self-esteem.”
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
My heart breaks for the City of Lights. My heart breaks for the world. All of the hate, the pain, and the sadness in the world is almost unbearable. How depressing it can be to live in these times.
I’ll leave you with this quote from Anne Frank.
“I keep my ideals, because in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart. Think of all the beauty still left around you and be happy.”
