Most of y’all know how much we LOVE Ocean Springs. The husband is from this quaint little town, and we visit every chance we get. We are so thankful that we get to come down (almost) as often as we want, and we hope to someday it home again.
Wondering the streets of downtown OS is one of our favorite things to do. Since we are pretty much experts on all the restaurants and watering holes around town, I thought I’d do a post on some of our favorites. I definitely suggest stopping by these places on your next trip to the Gulf Coast. You will not be disappointed.
As soon as you wake up, RUN, don’t walk, to The Greenhouse on Porter for one of their iced coffees. Locals call it crack. It’s extra caffeinated and extra delicious. Not to mention, this is the coolest little spot with tons of community involvement. It’s in a little greenhouse they converted into this hippy little hangout. They’re homemade biscuits are melt in your mouth delicious, and their specials change every day. They have every type of tea you can imagine or you can grab a beer. They host fun yoga classes and bike rides around town. They have lots of local art around, and at night, they always have some kind of live music. LOVE IT.
You just think you’ve had a good donut before. I understand. I thought I had too until I visited The Tatonut Donut Shop. I then proceeded to laugh at every Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts, Donut Palace, and Shipley’s I had ever had. They pride themselves on being “the only real donut,” and GOOD GRACIOUS they’re right. They’re different because they are made with potato flour, and their is ALWAYS a line outside the door. Don’t worry, though! It moves fast and is TOTALLY worth it. Just make sure you get their before the SOLD OUT sign is on the door. My personal faves–blueberry cake and plain old glaze
I don’t even know how to describe Phoenicia Gourmet. Brunch is what we usually go for, but the food is fantastic any time of the day. It has a Greek vibe, but features other types of food as well. B.Y.O. Champagne for mimosas at brunch or enjoy a Lebanese coffee.
Sushi is not just sushi at Chef Scott’s. The rolls are so unique and SO YUMMY. They are legit works of art. Snow to the Coast Roll, Being of the Dragon Roll, and the 2nd Signature Roll are some popular favorites, but I’ve never heard anyone say they got a roll they didn’t like. This place has been a long time favorite date spot of ours.
Pick a cake–any cake–and you cannot go wrong at French Kiss Pastries. The strawberry bavarian cream is a family favorite, but I love the carrot cake and chocolate mousse even more. You can order a big one for an event, or pick up a personal size one any time of the day. Their other pastries are incredible too. Nick has a hard time passing up a cannoli or cream cheese danish, and I can’t get enough of their pistachio macarons. Their iced coffees are delish, too. I may or may not have had a soy/sugar-free vanilla one this afternoon. It’s the perfect pick me up!
Enjoy a toasty sandwich at Bayview Gourmet for lunch. They’re breakfast is wonderful too, though. They have lots of unique options for both. We love to bring the dog and sit on the deck outside. Especially when the farmer’s market is across the street.
Get a blackberry margarita THE MOMENT you sit down at Maison de Lu. Linger on the back patio for lunch. Mosey up to the bar at happy hour, and have their fabulous mixologist create a drink for you. Then, enjoy a romantic date night when the sun goes down. You just can’t go wrong at this place. My favorite time we’ve been was after a Mardi Gras parade. SO MUCH FUN. Just go.
Last, but certainly not least, get a wood fire pizza at Leo’s, and then enjoy the night life that surrounds this place. It’s always hopping and always a good time. This was the very first restaurant I visited in Ocean Springs the first time I came with the husband. It holds a special place in my heart. The atmosphere is really great, too. Pictures of old Hollywood celebrities hang on the wall, and the pizzas are named after them all. Nick’s favorite–the Bob Marley pizza.
Ocean Springs is just the best. We love it so much, and always leave having gained AT LEAST 5 pounds. Haha! Maybe moving here isn’t such a good idea for my waist line?
Have you visited any of these places? What are your faves? Let me know!

**Edit: Some of the foods I have posted about are not vegan, and they do no longer fit into my diet. However, I have enjoyed the things listed in the past and would recommend them to anyone not following a vegan diet. Furthermore, I have found new items at each place that do meet my dietary restrictions.**
